Month 1, Day 18

Daily Priority #1 - Physical Health

Today I woke up and my hamstrings and calf muscles could feel the bike ride from yesterday and it was a brisk day with early morning temperatures again around freezing.  I used putting on my running shoes again as my stimulus (sort of like Pavlov and his dog).  One difference from recent days was that I actually consciously choose do a quick warm up routine  of 30 jumping jacks and a quick minute of stretching.  Despite the cold in the air, I made it happened and then was off on a run.  I can really feel that my work habit is solidifying which is encouraging.  Again my morning run had a long and gradual climb.  On the outbound I did not pass any cars or people.  It was just me, the pitter patter of my feet on the asphalt and the cold morning air burning the back of my throat.  On the way back I passed 3 deer within 5 feet of the road and 2 separate runners.  When it was time to turn off the main line road, I ran over a bridge and a stream and ran by 5 more deer in the grass to my left.  I ended up at a park where I did 2 sets of 7 pushups (14 total) as well as 1 & 4/5 chin up and 1 & 1/4 pull ups.  What I noticed was that my chin up “bar” was a rigid net ladder provided a better “bar” than I have had in the past, while the pull up bar was over a swing set and was too thick to grip all the way around.  Thus I flipped what I was able to accomplish from previous attempts to improve my pull ups.  At the end of my route I arrived back at the house I was staying after running just over a mile.

I stretch for 5 minutes and continued my new routine.  Since I had done lower body two days ago, today was upper body.  I alternated between activities and stretching.  I continued with my 3rd day where I took on multiple “sets” of each movement.  2 sets of 14 dumbbell rows (7 each arm, 28 total) using a full backpack as weight, stretch.  Reward time = breakfast and warm shower.

Journey far,

― Joe
