Daily Priority #1 - Physical Health
This morning I struggled to get out of bed. Not because I was tired, I woke up before my alarm. I struggled because my habits still have not been formed. Right now it takes a large amount of cognitive resources to decide to get up to go for a run. Also, I was sore everywhere from yesterday. That’s right, my hamstrings and calves were tight from running. My shoulders where they meet my chest was tight. Even my back was tight. It was not like the worst soreness of my life-- that will always be reserved for the morning after high school basketball practice. But it was a lot sorer than I had expected.
With my running shoes on I was out the door. Today it was not raining in Seattle but it was overcast. The hill next to the house was still there but today the burning in the lungs was not so intense. I focused on striding out to make it up the hill. I ran to where I turned around yesterday and added an extra “block”. All in all, just over a mile. On the way back I started to spit consistently, perhaps my body complaining about transitioning to a new routine. Back at the house, I did 25 jumping jacks but my right knee keep “creaking”. Then I did 10 squats and 10 lunges (5 each leg) and stretched. Reward time = breakfast.
