Month 1, Day 9

Daily Priority #1 - Physical Health

Today was brutal getting out of bed.  Not because I was overly tired.  Rather because my muscles were tight and the covers wrapped me in warmth.  After dozing back off multiple times following various rounds of “bed stretches” I finally summoned up the courage to make the choice to get out of bed.  Ultimately it was the realization that I was not allowed to work on my laptop until after I completed my workout that got me out of bed.  I got my running shoes on, headed out the door, and made the conscious choice to do a warm up routine.  It was really simple, 30 jumping jacks and 2 minutes of stretching.  As I stretched my hamstrings and calves.  Again, I could tell my core muscles tight from the planking yesterday.

It was a cool day in Seattle and the morning dew brought the temperature down to be boarderline chilly—a perfect running morning.  I began running up the hill towards the YMCA.  The morning traffic was out which was less than inspiring.  I felt slow going up the hill as my body warmed.  On my way from the YMCA to the west Seattle stadium, I passed a bus stop that had the overhang from a couple days before.”  I did 1 & 4/5 pull ups.  I got a strange look from an onlooker, but I simply ran onward.  When I got to the stadium they did not really have a pull up bar so I used an overhead railing and did 0.5 chin up again the chin up was more about effort than functionality.

When I returned to the house after running my route of just over a mile, I stretch briefly outside before entering the apartment to continue my new routine.  Since I had done lower body yesterday, today was upper body.  I alternated between activities and stretching. 11 pushups, stretch.  22 dumbbell rows (11 each arm) using a full backpack as weight, stretch.  Reward time = breakfast & laptop.

Journey far,
